Our Attendee Spotlight is:

Shay Lyn who's blog is Bag Lady Blog

What do you hope to experience at Blogging While Brown 2013?

I am mostly looking forward to the wealth of knowledge that will be offered at the conference. Not only through key note speakers and seminars, but also the other women of color who will be in attendance and have lots of experience to share. I have not had the opportunity to connect with other brown bloggers from Connecticut, so I am also hoping there will be people from my state there so I can meet some of my peers.

Why did you decide to start a blog?

My blog was started as a compliment to my online shop, Bag Lady Boutique. I figured that even if people are not shopping they should still be able to leave the site with a good experience. It is my goal to provide great content and build loyal readers along the way.

Are there specific types of bloggers you are interested in connecting with at the conference?

I am interested in connecting with fashion bloggers who embody the idea that style does not have to be expensive. There are so many fashion bloggers out there so I think the ones who teach people how to make do with very little are unique. More specifically I am hoping to connect with those who are interested in thrifting and vintage finds.

What are your top blogging tips for other bloggers?

I think the best thing to do is stay consistent. Always have something for your readers to indulge in. I have struggle with this personally as I work several jobs along with running my small business. I like to invite guest bloggers to keep the content fresh.

Where do you see you and your blog in 5 years?

I would love for my blog to be a top resource in the area of thrifting and vintage finds. I love the culture of thrifting and simply want to spread it to others. I have not yet been able to focus my content specifically on thrifting because I like to include good visuals and I don't have a great camera yet. Another area I would like to improve is my ability to travel to thrift and consignment shops outside of Connecticut. Five years from now my blog will have a growing collection of inspiration for thrifted looks, resources on how to thrift effectively, and reviews of thrift and consignment shops nationwide!

Do you need something from your fellow bloggers to take your blogging to the next level?

I am definitely looking to build mutually beneficial relationships. I would love to partner with other bloggers to receive guidance and help growing my blog. A big aspect of my blog is empowering other women, so I am also hoping to be introduced to blogs I've never visited that can be featured on my site in the future.

Do you have something to offer bloggers to help them take their blogging to the next level?

It seems that many of the popular bloggers are from large cities that encourage creativity and innovation. I am from Connecticut and the network of fashion and beauty bloggers is very small. Yet there are so many women from Connecticut who love and support brown bloggers. I can connect new bloggers to the interested population in Connecticut through my blog, newsletter and other social media platforms.
